My thoughts, my beliefs, my voice.

Here is a small blog for me to share my thoughts on the state of the world. I don't look out at United Kingdom that is changing for the better and I think I risk madness, if I left things unsaid to fester within my mind. If all I do is like a few Instagram posts or YouTube videos, then call that critical thinking.

So here are my attempts to articulate my beliefs and better understand them in the process. I have a few pillars that I see as the most important talking points. I may well change or expand on these in the future, but for now these. They focus on the rights of the individual and what I see as most fundamental to the kind of society I want to live in.

Personal Power is the idea that individuals should have agency in their lives. No one should be a slave and no one should feel hopeless. Complete equality will never be possible, but we live in a world where small groups of people hold an outsized power over the majority. Powerless people act out of fear - often against their own self interest - or fail to act at all. We should empower individuals and communities to protect themselves.

Personal Freedom is a foundational requirement, as this gives enables you to exercise your power according to your rights. The power to cast your vote isn't meaningful, if you aren't free to express your support for the candidate of your choice. We need the freedom to speak our minds and to challenge the status quo.

Then we have the driving forces that infringe on our power and our freedom. Wealth and equality - often the lack of equality - concentrate power in the hands of a few people. Finances and financial markets control the flow of wealth. Personal finances dictate what is possible for an individual, cutting off access to freedoms enjoyed by the rich. Financialisation across the globe has opened doors for those who already have an influence to manipulate the world to their advantage, at scales never seen before. We need to put checks in place to prevent abuses of authority.

And finally, thoughts on how positive change can be achieved. Ways that those in power could enact policy change. Or that communities can work together to improve things for themselves. In any case, meaningful change cannot be achieved alone. It is important to communicate, discuss and collaborate if we want things to be better in the future.
